Conventions
This is an integral part of the JSA experience. Texas’ conventions are places of ideological diversity, forums for discussion, and foundations of long-lasting friendships. As Convention Coordinator I have immense experience in this aspect of JSA, and there are several ideas that I will move forward if elected.
The process of preparing for a convention can be hectic, which is why I will push the convention department to meet periodic deadlines in the weeks leading up to conventions with regards to debate assignments, timeframes and agenda assembly.
Transportation is a major obstacle for the many chapters located far from conventions, which is why if elected, I will coordinate the convention and fundraising departments to help provide transportation to chapters for whom there is no other feasible means of getting to conventions.
While the JSApp has been implemented in previous conventions, there are a multitude of problems regarding its ease of use and its functionality. Because of this, I plan to work with the convention department to modify the JSApp for improved ease of use and create a guide to the JSApp to be released prior to conventions.
Finally, it is important that conventions meet the expectations of the Texas Junior State. As Convention Coordinator this year, I implemented an idea that I will mandate if I am elected governor. If elected, I will push for the creation of an online survey through which convention delegates can share their convention experiences, voice their opinions on what went wrong and what went well, and have input into the process of running and executing successful conventions. This gives power to everyday JSAers who may have great ideas for conventions but until now have had no outlet for sharing these ideas.
