activism
Far too many people see JSA as simply a place for discussions and debates. While discourse is an important part of civic engagement, the Texas Junior State also has wonderful opportunities for students through activism projects such as #FightApathy.
If elected, I will push for the Texas Activism Department to work with Chapter Internal Affairs to ensure that chapters have every opportunity to partake in at least one activism project per semester. Activism is a fun and important way for chapters to experience JSA outside of conventions and regular meetings.
To ensure that activism projects can be successfully executed in both semesters, I will require the Chapter Activism Guide to be released by early September to give chapters adequate time in the first semester to successfully execute activism projects. This will give opportunities to engage in civic activism to people who may seek ways to partake in democratic society aside from debate and politics.
I will also push for the execution of a greater number of "action items" such as congress-calling events, letter-writing campaigns and more! This will broaden the scope of our activism branch and push the boundaries of JSA's activities to new heights.
Finally, I will work with the activism and publicity departments to collaborate with other politically-centered organizations such as Model UN and bipartisan political groups to plan and coordinate joint-organization events. This will extend the reach of JSA, increase our sphere of active influence, and could even increase our membership.
