fundraising
Fundraising is absolutely crucial to the Texas Junior State. With successful fundraising, there is no reason that anyone should be barred from finding their JSA experience by financial barriers. State scholarship funding significantly helps relieve financial barriers, but chapter fundraising is an oft-ignored factor that can be of the utmost importance in getting economically disadvantaged students to conventions and summer schools.
This year, Texas has done a great job with fundraising. At conventions, I plan to build on this by expanding the merchandise that JSA sells at state conventions beyond t-shirts and lanyards. This would include hoodies, beanies, stickers/decals, pins, and more. Many JSAers have expressed to me that they would love to see these items sold at conventions, and as governor I would strive to make it happen.
To help ensure a net gain of funds through merchandise, I will ask convention-going chapter presidents to submit an estimate of numbers of t-shirts their delegates plan to buy. This will minimize any excess of t-shirts and help turn a profit.
I will also work to add an element of fun to the fundraising process by creating engaging fundraising programs at conventions such as letter-writing campaigns. This and other programs will give fundraising a greater sense of interactivity and enjoyment for the everyday JSAer.
Fundraising begins with the student leadership. If I am elected, department heads and elected officials will be required to meet fundraising quotas for the state scholarship fund. This can be accomplished through any combination of fundraising methods, and will set an example for excellence with regards to Texas' fundraising.
